When is the best time to visit Costa Rica?

Costa Rica has two main seasons, and both have their charm. The dry season runs roughly from December to April: sunny days, blue skies and busy beaches, especially on the Pacific side. It’s also high season, so book stays and rental cars early.
The green season, from May to November, brings afternoon showers and lush, glowing forests. Mornings are often sunny, prices drop and the crowds thin out. Pack a light rain jacket and plan outdoor activities for the morning.
Don’t forget the Caribbean side
The Caribbean coast follows its own rhythm. September and October, the rainiest months on the Pacific side, are often some of the driest on the Caribbean coast.
Our tip
For the best mix of good weather and fewer people, look at late April, or July, when there’s often a short drier spell locals call the veranillo.
